The game of the little frog, as it is commonly referred to, is considered one of the most popular games from the Golden Age of Arcades.
Alongside Pac-Man, Invaders, and Asteroids, the game can be found on almost any arcade gaming platform on the internet.
Today, it is regarded as a classic and has spawned dozens of sequels and imitations.
Released in 1981 and distributed by Sega, it was developed by the Japanese company Konami and marked their first major success. Almost three decades later, the game continues to be popular among new generations of players.
Jumping Frog Mania Game Play
The main appeal of Retro Jumping Frog is its simplicity. No sophisticated stories. No colorful characters with dozens of moves. Just frogs bravely trying to cross a busy road. Only to face the challenge of a river filled with dangers.
The player’s job is to guide each frog safely across the road and the river without mishaps.
[SCREENSHOT]
You start the game with three frogs. That’s the number of lives you have. They are at the bottom of the screen.
To move across the busy road, you must get the frogs to the top of the screen while navigating all the hazards.
On the road, the frogs must avoid numerous vehicles: cars, trucks, dune buggies, racing cars, and even excavators. These vehicles, of course, move horizontally across the screen at different speeds and in opposite directions.
Beyond the road, there is also a river with logs, crocodiles, and unreliable turtles floating by.
If the frogs can jump onto the turtles without being devoured by a crocodile or falling into the water, they will reach their home.
There are four different frog homes or lily pads located at the top of the screen. To make things even more challenging, each level is timed, so you must get the little frog to its destination before time runs out or you will lose a life.
A player can also earn bonuses by catching insects in the river or escorting a little frog.
How to Win at Jumping Frog Mania?
When all four frogs reach their homes and all the lily pads are filled, the game advances to the next, more challenging level. As expected, the vehicles move faster and the predators in the river are quicker and more abundant.
As for the controls, there is only one way to control the frogs. It consists of the arrow-shaped buttons located at the bottom right of the screen. Every time a player presses one, the frog jumps once in the direction of the arrow.
