Nonogram, also known as Picross or Griddler, is one of the most satisfying logic puzzle games ever created. The rules are simple: use the number clues on each row and column to determine which cells to fill in. The result is a hidden pixel picture revealed through pure reasoning — no guessing required.

How to Play Nonogram

Each puzzle is a grid with numbered clues along the top and left side. The clues on each row tell you how many consecutive filled cells appear in that row, and in what order. The same applies to each column. Your job is to deduce which cells are filled and which are empty using logic alone.

Basic Rules

A clue of 3 means there is a single block of exactly three consecutive filled cells in that line. A clue of 2 1 means there is a block of two, then at least one empty cell, then a block of one — in that order. A clue of 0 means the entire row or column is empty.

Controls

On desktop, left-click any cell to fill it. Left-click again to clear it. Right-click to mark a cell with an × — useful to flag cells you know must stay empty. On mobile, tap to fill a cell and hold for half a second to mark it instead.

How to Know You Are Done

When every row and column matches its clues exactly, the puzzle is solved. Row and column headers turn green as you correctly complete each one, so you always know your progress at a glance.

Puzzles Included

This version includes six hand-crafted puzzles in two sizes. The three easy puzzles are 5×5 grids — perfect for beginners or for a quick brain warm-up. The three medium puzzles are 10×10 grids with more complex patterns. Each puzzle has a unique solution that can be found using logic alone, without guessing.

Puzzle List

Easy (5×5): Cross, Diamond, Smile. Medium (10×10): House, Tree, Rocket. Each puzzle is named after the picture hidden in the grid, which you will only see once it is solved.

Tips for Solving Nonograms

Start With the Longest Blocks

A block that is more than half the length of the line must overlap with itself regardless of where it is placed. For example, a block of 8 in a line of 10 can only start at positions 1 or 2 — meaning cells 3 through 8 are guaranteed to be filled. Mark those first and work outward.

Use Elimination as Much as Fill

Marking cells you know must be empty is just as powerful as filling cells you know must be full. If a line has a clue of 2 and you have already placed the only possible block of 2, all remaining cells in that line can be marked empty.

Cross-Reference Rows and Columns

Every cell belongs to both a row and a column. When a column forces a cell to be empty, that information immediately constrains what the row can look like, and vice versa. Always work both directions and update each time you make progress.

Look for Completed Lines

When the numbers in a clue exactly account for all cells in the line — for example, a clue of 3 2 in a line of 6 with one gap — every cell position is fixed. Fill the whole line at once and move on.

Why Nonogram Is Addictive

Unlike crosswords or word searches, Nonogram requires no language or general knowledge — only logical reasoning. Every step follows from the previous one. There are no red herrings and no luck involved. When you solve a puzzle, you know you earned it. That clarity is what keeps players coming back for hundreds of sessions.

Nonogram also trains spatial reasoning and pattern recognition in a way that feels like play rather than practice. Many players report that regular Nonogram sessions improve their ability to spot patterns quickly in everyday tasks.
